Automated dispensing facility for the benefit of independents
The UK’s first large-scale highly automated prescription dispensing facility developed for the benefit of independent pharmacies. Representing a £15m investment, HubRx is integrated with technology partner RxWeb and global automation company Knapp to combine the latest generation of dispensing technologies.
The GPhC registered facility is now tried and tested with over 2.5 million packs already dispensed for our own Pharmacy+Health branches.

The HubRx solution
You as a pharmacy business and responsible pharmacists remain in control throughout the process:
- Clinical check remains with you using RxWeb’s efficient One-Click algorithms.
- EPS nomination and clinical check responsibility remains with your pharmacy and RP
- Suitable original-pack item orders are passed through to HubRx efficiently and securely with additional (non-HubRx) items dispensed locally
- Orders received by HubRx are dispensed, labelled, checked and bagged same working day (subject to cut-off time)
- Sealed bags are delivered in a sealed tote back to your pharmacy the next working day
- HubRx is responsible for the accuracy of these assembled, labelled and bagged items
- Bags are scanned and reconciled by RxWeb. Any locally dispensed items can be consolidated
- RxWeb bag tracker enables efficient storage, patient notification and collection processes
- You make your NHS prescription reimbursement claims from RxWeb

Full integration with 
Full integration with the RxWeb PMR system, including autosend, auto-whitelist check, acutes-send plus red-amber-green intervention functionality all creates a highly efficient, light-touch workflow.
RxWeb automatically verifies prescriptions against a live, product whitelist of the medicines that HubRx can assemble for you
RxWeb displays prescriptions in a dedicated HubRx queue, applies the One-Click configurable rules, to minimise the input required by your staff. The minority of items requiring a dispenser or pharmacist intervention are highlighted with a red-amber-green notification.
The status of prescriptions is visible on the PMR at all stages between the pharmacy–hub–courier–pharmacy stages with patient notifications automatically sent at appropriate times.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I have to be an RxWeb PMR customer?
Yes currently. We are fully integrated with HubRx and using this system this is your quickest route to be able to use HubRx. We hope in the future to be able to integrate with other PMR systems. To register your interest for working with HubRx via your current PMR please complete the Contact Form.
Is there a minimum obligation for volumes or duration when joining HubRx?
Our commercial terms provides you with flexibility, but we are confident however that you will quickly see the range of capacity, efficiency and buying benefits HubRx provides and will want to use our service for a high proportion of your prescriptions within a few weeks. Using HubRx for over 50% enables you to transform your pharmacy, developing your services offering and increasing profitability as we have shown with our own Pharmacy+Health group.
How many pharmacies can HubRx provide a service for?
This is completely dependent on the number of prescription items each pharmacy sends to us. The facility is built and tested to assemble 1 million items per month with long-term plans available to expand beyond that if required.
Is HubRx for private and NHS prescriptions?
HubRx is just for the dispensing of NHS prescriptions sent by NHS-contracted pharmacies in England.
We are working with RxWeb to explore the possibility that Welsh pharmacies can use our service.
Is aDirect to Patient Delivery Service available
Under the current legislation, a Direct to Patient is not available as part of the HubRx service or any other third party hub & spoke provider offering.
What is the HubRx dispensing fee?
The HubRx dispensing fee is 75 pence per item. This is an all-inclusive price of labeling, bagging, checking and delivery next-day to your spoke pharmacy.
This equates to less than a third of the typical all-in staff and materials cost of dispensing an item locally. With a huge amount of staff capacity released for both profitable clinical services and staffing cost-control, alongside improved buying.

What are the payment terms?
All HubRx fees and drug costs will be invoiced EoM with strict 30 day terms. A direct debit mandate may be required to join HubRx.
Weekly and monthly management information reports will be provided on our Insights Portal, to provide transparent information about your HubRx utilisation, our service levels and drug costs.

Who retains the EPS nomination and ownership?
You retain the ownership of the patient’s EPS nomination and the ongoing relationship with that patient. HubRx are your business to business expert partner and do not have an NHS pharmacy contract.
Who is the data controller and who is a processor?
Your pharmacy remains the data controller. HubRx are a data processor under the definition of that in the Data Protection Act and will meet or exceed all obligations around the safe storage and appropriate use of your data.
HubRx have the Cyber Essentials accreditation, have completed the NHS Information Governance Toolkit and are registered with the Information Commissioner’s Office. Please see our data security page for more information.
Are HubRx a registered pharmacy?
HubRx are a General Pharmaceutical Council regulated pharmacy. We are not NHS contracted, so do not have our own EPS patient nominations or direct relationships with patients.
